not fit for purpose and all that.didn't happen overnight.did it.ĭon't blame you for not wanting him anywhere near the box. I'm not too fussed about taking the gearbox over to him to sort out though as I'd rather do it myself and know its right, than worry about what sort of bodges there are inside!Perhaps he'd like to pay for all the parts and your time. Or he has checked them and thought sod it! The thing is if I had have known about it I could have swapped the oil cooler drained the oil and may have gotten away with it! Obviously he hasn't, otherwise he would have spotted the milky oil in the gearbox. I'm annoyed because he said he would check it over and check the levels. He said he would get back to me, but hasn't! Ill take some photos when I strip the reverser unit down, Just waiting on the new plates coming. I once had a Saab auto that had water in the gearbox, oil cooler letting water in again! that did the same. Starters still work so you wont notice any other symptoms.Yes, water ruins the friction plates, There was a lot of water in there! I read somewhere that it breaks down the glue that bonds them to the plate.

Like I said the noses can crack off the end of the starters and jam in the flywheel. These compact powershift transmissions with torque converter drive are designed to give uninterrupted power by utilising electro hydraulically. It drives on oil pressure with out it or low pressure clutch packs will slip and you will have to take it all out again which is not the easiest lump to get out.īefore you do anything else take the starter off and look in there. They are a cheap weak box I would overhaul it as its been stood so long as seals will have gone hard. You have a torque converter that drives shuttle box and that is bolted to a thin metal flexi disc this disc then bolts to the flywheel and a peg in centre of converter locates in flywheel were the spigot bearing would normally be for a clutch application. Drop the whole unit as one out on the floor jack front and rear up to wheel jack out. I made a cradle for the one I did that bolts to a trolley jack and then bolts to the transmission unit.

Jcb 3cx transmission problems pdf#
If anyone has got any ideas on the problem I'd like to hear them before we strip it down and if someone has a pdf service manual for that box and they'd like to share that would be great. It's a Borg-Warner box so could it be the metal pressure plate/diaphragm that engages forwards/reverse,if this goes normally reverse will still work,or has it stood and the clutch plates have fell to pieces. Recently he has dicided he wants to use it so he checked all fluids and noticed the torque converter was over full, he started it up to move it into the yard to drain the torque converter but when he did the torque converter made a rattling noise so he immediately stopped it.we've since got it in the workshop and drained the box the oil looks old but not contaminated and there's no sign of water getting in, we refilled it and started it and it's still making a rattling metallic noise. The digger was bought new by him and has only done 1400 hours in it life but has been standing for 5 years. We've been asked to look at a A reg 3cx for a neighbour.
